about the project

There is currently a fundamental paradigm shift in remembrance // commemoration: The lifespan of survivors and contemporary witnesses of the Shoah is limited and many of them are no longer around to bear witness.

This paradigm shift is a worldwide phenomenon - it affects Israel, the USA, Germany as well as Austria and other countries where survivors and contemporary witnesses of the Shoah have settled.

A large number of individual testimonies have been recorded in documentary and scientific form and are accessible to the public:

The International Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem brings together the most comprehensive archive and globally networked research.

The USC Shoah Foundation, initiated by Steven Spielberg, comprises over 50,000 standardized video interviews with survivors and witnesses of the Shoah.

theater erinnert deals with the question of how theater addresses the end and transformation of eyewitness testimony and makes it a theme.

As an artistic medium, theater is committed to the present moment of the here and now in the complex time construct of narrated time and the presence of the performance.

The Theater erinnert // theater remembers portal aims to make productions accessible as a sustainable place of experience and in-depth research, that work with the transformation of testimony. This creates a virtual place for the topic, which - as an online portal - becomes visible across borders. In this way, further productions from other countries that deal with the topic can also be included and made visible in the future.
